HISTORY & MILESTONES

In June of 1985, formerly known as Bible Baptist Educational Institution (BBEI), the Metropolitan International Christian Academy (MICA) opened her doors initially to 41 students, made up entirely of members’ children of the Metropolitan Bible Baptist Church. The establishment of this educational ministry was born out of a NEED – a need for an alternative system of education to counter the dangerous effects of the prevailing humanistic orientation of the educational system in the 80’s. Thus, a VISION dawned upon the heart of its Founder and Administrator, Dr. Benny M. Abante, Jr. who prayed that he, together with his wife, the former Marie Paz Toledo, would be able to put up a school with the Bible as the center of its curriculum and the Lord Jesus Christ as the object of the various disciplines commonly taught in conventional schools.

The curriculum used then was not conventional but rather   “traditional,” in the sense that mastery of the basics - Reading, ‘Riting and ‘Rithmetic became its main learning objective.

Theistic in its approach with Bible-based character development intertwined in each subject matter, the A.C.E. curriculum, also called the School of Tomorrow system in the Asia-Pacific Rim, is strongly hinged on the biblical principle that each child is a unique creation of an all-knowing God, and as such, he/she differs in every way from another child of the same age.

In 1998, BBEI’s name was changed to Metropolitan International Christian Academy (MICA), and along with that historic 15th year milestone, was the opening of its high school department.

In August 2008, after 23 years of occupying church-owned spaces in 2330 Revellin Street, MICA transferred to a 4-storey edifice located at 2356 B.J. Syquia Street, Sta. Ana, Manila.
